About Me

Hello, I'm Suzanne Patterson

A storyteller at heart, from day one

Suzanne Patterson is a children's author based in Bathurst, regional New South Wales, where she lives with her husband. Having spent many years in Sydney, she now enjoys the quieter pace of regional life and treasures time with her two grown daughters whenever she can.

With a lifelong love of storytelling, Suzanne's creative journey began in childhood through reading, writing short stories, play acting, and travelling. Before pursuing writing professionally, she worked as a mapmaker — a career that combined creativity and precision until advances in technology led her to explore her true passion for storytelling.

Committed to her craft, Suzanne has undertaken numerous writing courses and masterclasses, both online and in person. She understands the importance of continually refining her skills and staying connected to industry trends. Like many authors, her journey included persistence through submissions and rejections — experiences that strengthened her determination and love for sharing stories with young readers.

Suzanne's writing process is organic and inspired by moments of creativity that can strike anywhere, anytime. Early mornings are her favourite time to write, often capturing ideas in notebooks, on her phone, or her laptop.
In 2019, Suzanne began writing her debut children's story, Mooshy. After several years of development and refinement, she proudly celebrated its completion in June 2023-a milestone marking the beginning of her journey as a published author.

Outside of writing, Suzanne enjoys reading, music, long walks, and home renovations. Her life experiences have been filled with memorable adventures, from encountering wildlife-including holding a baby crocodile-to moments of quiet creativity and reflection.
Growing up, Suzanne was inspired by beloved children's classics such as The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss, Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, Eloise by Kay Thompson, and Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary. Later, she shared favourites like Possum Magic, Time for Bed, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar with her own children.

Suzanne encourages young readers to embrace the magic of books, reminding them that every story is an adventure waiting to be discovered.
